- for crafters by crafters
Craft Atelier is a passion project that started more than a decade ago. Full-time teachers then, Hui Lian and Chen Chen dreamt of co-owning a craft studio one day.
In November 2008, they took the first step by starting a part-time gig of teaching craft workshops out of Chen Chen's dining room and that is when Craft Atelier was born.
Ten years later, they made the bold leap to formally register the business and signed their first lease, at MOX Co-Making (Katong Point) in July 2018.
A year on, Craft Atelier now has her own little home at 426A Joo Chiat Road, not far from where we first started. We are not only a school that offers workshops and individualized instruction, we are also a studio where people can drop in to utilize our equipment, supplies and tools, as well as a community of crafters.
At Craft Atelier, we are in the business of encouraging more people to craft, and more importantly, to embrace and express our creativity in different ways. After a session here in our studio, our customers feel energized and empowered, proud of their creations and leave feeling grateful for the connections and friendships formed.
Join us in celebrating the process of creation and not the need for perfection.

Chen Chen hails from a family of makers and tinkerers. So it is no surprise that she loves to create things with her hands and new ideas and alternative ways of doing things keep creeping into her mind.
For a brief period her kids, both at home and in school, took precedence over her crafting. An unexpected turn of events resulted in a brief relocation to Cambridge (Massachusetts) where she met many talented makers and crafters who are now her friends. Inspired by the strong sense of fellowship she experienced amongst that crafting community, Chen Chen hopes that Craft Atelier will become the platform for such organic relationships to develop amongst like-minded individuals here in Singapore.
Hui Lian is a known dabbler in many crafts. She started young, learning how to crochet when she was in kindergarten and designed clothes for her doll. She then went on her crafting journey by exploring in many fibre and paper crafts. She is known among friends as a walking wiki for crafts.
With this new chapter in her crafting adventure, she hopes that Craft Atelier will provide the support to encourage others to give new experiences a try and foster a love for learning, creating and sharing.
