Colour Play

Often as we embark on a crochet, knitting or weaving project, we deliberate long and hard over the choice of colours. If you are going to spend the time to handmake an item, you often want to be sure that the colours chosen match the preferences and skin tones of the intended recipient.

If you are looking for some help in understanding how colours interact with each other, and plan a colour palette that is best suited for you, the SweetGeorgia Colour Play workshop might just be the workshop for you.

In this workshop, we will go over the fundamentals of colour theory and terminology when it comes to choose colours for our knitting, crochet and weaving projects. Having a basic vocabulary for colour enables us to better communicate exactly what we are looking for in a colour.

During the workshop, we will use video resources and handouts developed by SweetGeorgia Yarns to explore different types of colour combinations that work with the different colour segments on the colour wheel. A Colour Play Play-Along Kit comprising of 36 passionate, relentless and unapologetic SweetGeorgia colours hand-dyed in the all-time favourite Tough Love Sock base (20 yards per colour) will also enable participants to put their learning into practice through various hands-on activities, including a simple colour test knit.

2.5 hours, $140

At the end of the session, you can choose to knit up various colour swatches using the Play-Along Kit or use the yarn (approximately 720 yards in total) to create any one of the following items : a shawl, a wide scarf, two narrow scarves, two pairs of socks, two pairs of gloves or mittens, two beanies etc. We will provide links to suggested patterns as part of the class.

As mentioned earlier, the kit will contain 36 samples of hand-dyed yarns from SweetGeorgia Yarns, with each sample measuring approximately 20 yards. This entire kit includes a whooping 720 yards of the much loved Tough Love Sock yarn (which we retail at $44 for each skein of 425 yards). . It is a 80% Superwash Merino and 20% nylon blend. This fingering weight yarn is next to skin soft and available in a wide range of colours.
