Basics Series - Fibre Reactive Dyes Class
Learn how to dye cellulose based yarn (eg cotton, Tencel) using fibre reactive dyesAbout this experience
In this workshop, you will learn about how to use fibre reactive dyes to dye cellulose based fibres/yarn/fabric. Cellulose based fibres include cotton, bamboo, Tencel and linen. Fibre reactive dyes are vibrant and adheres well to cellulose based fibres.
You will learn how to mix the dyes to create different hues and tones. Create your own palette with 7 basic colours!Β
For this workshop, you will dye up 5 mini skeins of cotton and 5 mini skeins of Tencel. As fibre reactive dyes are typically dyed in 2 stages, we will complete stage 1 and start stage 2 in the studio. You will then bring home the containers of dyes and yarn and leave them to soak overnight before rinsing the excess out of the yarn.
There will be a demonstration in the studio on how to rinse the yarn after the dyeing process. The excess dyes are non toxic and safe to rinse off at home.Β
