Join us for a 3-session Sashiko stitch-along designed as a collaborative study group! Bring a clothing item you'd like to embellish or mend, along with your own supplies, and spend time stitching together in a relaxed, supportive environment.
This is not a formal class, but a space to learn from each other, share techniques, and explore traditional and modern Sashiko stitching. Together, we’ll dive into decorative stitching, visible mending, and creative pattern-making. Whether you're a beginner or experienced stitcher, you'll find inspiration and motivation by connecting with fellow makers.
Let’s experiment, encourage one another, and build community—one stitch at a time.
The timeline of the study group is paced to accommodate respective life schedules and responsibilities, allowing participants to set their own stitching goals and receive feedback from the rest of the group.  This study group will meet three times across the course of two months. The dates of these meetings are as follows :
- Session 1: 26 Oct 2 to 4pmÂ
- Session 2: 9 Nov 2 to 4pm
- Session 3: 23 Nov 2 to 4pm
Participants in this study group should be able to read and follow simple Sashiko stitching patterns and transfer stitching guidelines onto fabric. Since this is meant to be a study group, there will not be extensive guidance on how to do the running stitches, pattern transfer techniques and weaving techniques. Our facilitators can point you to reference resources if needed. Alternatively, participants can choose to take on additional classes or consultations with Craft Atelier outside this study group.Â
A membership fee of $45 will be charged for the study group. Participants will be expected to provide materials for their own projects.Â
Participants are expected to :
- Bring their own article of clothing that they wish to add sashiko stitching patterns onto. They may choose to complete all the stitching onto one piece of clothing or on multiple pieces.
- Commit to the schedule of meetings for this study group and to complete at least three patches of stitching in the course of the study group period.
