Our Workshop Philosophy
We teach craft with care and attention to how learning unfolds over time. People come to our workshops with different intentions — to learn a technique, to begin a craft, to practice with guidance, to understand how something works beneath the surface, or simply to spend time in a community of making. All of these are valid ways of entering craft and our workshops are designed to support them.
Workshops are paced for learning, not for speed. Participants are introduced to the craft through demonstrations, structured practice, and hands-on work with tools and materials. We prioritise understanding and technique over rapid output.
Participants are welcome to move between series based on interest and readiness — there is no fixed pathway, only opportunities to continue where it feels meaningful.
Studio Samplers for people who are curious about a craft and want to try it for the first time. Depending on the craft, you may complete a small object or simply explore tools and techniques to understand how the craft works. No prior experience is needed.
Foundations workshops introduce the structure and logic of a craft. Participants learn core techniques, work with proper tools and materials, and begin to understand how the craft behaves. Projects in this tier support technique rather than lead it.
Study Groups support ongoing practice for learners who wish to continue a craft over time. Participants work on their own pieces, revisit techniques, and learn alongside others. Study Groups are not classes; they are communities of practice.
Next Steps workshops extend the craft into more advanced techniques, refinements, and project-based work. Participants are assumed to have foundational knowledge of the craft, either through prior workshops or through their own practice.
Participants are welcome to move between series based on interest and readiness — there is no fixed pathway, only opportunities to continue where it feels meaningful.
Choosing a Workshop
Workshops may be approached in two ways:
-
By Craft
Participants who already know which craft interests them may browse workshops organised by craft. -
By Tier
Participants who are exploring where to begin or how to continue may browse workshops organised by tier.- Studio Samplers are for those curious about a craft and want to try it for the first time
- Foundations are for those who wish to learn the structure and techniques of a craft
- Study Groups for those who already practice a craft and want to continue with others
- Next Steps for those with foundational skills and want to deepen their knowledge
Participants may move between series based on interest and readiness. There is no fixed pathway; continuation is optional and may take different forms. If guidance is needed, we are happy to advise.
